Survey of Libraries’ Management of Learning Performance Data

Welcome! You are being invited to take part in a research project.

Libraries' use of digital tutorials and quizzes make it possible to collect a lot of data from students. This project explores how libraries are collecting and managing these kinds of data.

Project definition

This project is an investigation of the "learning performance data" gathered by digital learning objects' question and quizzing features.

It uses the term “learning performance data” to describe:

  • data representing students' responses to questions;

  • data representing students' overall scores for a quiz or tutorial; and

  • aggregate data representing the performance of multiple students on a question or tutorial.

Examples of data-gathering digital learning objects include tutorials and quizzes created in platforms such as Google Forms, Captivate, Guide on the Side, LibWizard Tutorials or Qualtrics.

This project excludes tutorials and quizzes created with the native features of learning management systems (BlackBoard, Moodle, Canvas, etc) that are administered by an institutional unit other than the library.

Our research questions:

  • What types of learning performance data are libraries collecting?

  • How are libraries managing the storage, access, and retention of learning performance data?

  • What policies or best practices for the management of learning performance data are libraries following?

This survey

Our survey should take approximately 10-15 minutes to complete. All questions are optional and all responses will remain anonymous in any publication of results. By opening and completing the survey, you are giving your informed consent for participation. Your participation is completely voluntary, and you may discontinue participation at any time.
