(2,2) Job Seekers’ Attraction to Hiring Organizations

Principal Investigator (PI): David A. Jones, PhD

You are being invited to take part in a research study.  You are eligible to participate in this research study if you are of 18 years of age or older and are actively enrolled in a business course at the University of Vermont.  This survey is created and administered by Dr. David A. Jones, an Associate Professor in the School of Business Administration, University of Vermont.

Purpose of the research study

We are interested in job seekers’ attraction to hiring organizations and their reactions to information on their web pages.  With the rising popularity of the Internet as a resource for job seekers we are interested in the type of information that individuals gain from hiring organizations’ web pages.

What you will be asked to do

Completing the on-line survey will take about 30 minutes.  After being asked to respond to a few questions about your demographic characteristics and work experience, you will be asked to review the webpages of two fictional organizations while acting as though you are interested in the kinds of employment positions they have open.  Then you will be asked to respond to survey questions about your interest in each organization and your beliefs about various aspects of them.

As a token of appreciation or your time, you will have the option of receiving a 1% bonus to your final grade in the BSAD course in which your instructor invited you to participate.  You can only participate in the study once and assign the bonus credit to a grade in a single BSAD course. Early in the survey you will be asked to create a Study ID number that you can provide to your professor so he or she can as the researchers to confirm your participation. Throughout the survey you have the option to skip questions but you will receive the token of appreciation regardless of whether you answer all of the survey questions.

All responses are anonymous

Your responses to this survey are anonymous—you will not be asked to provide your name or contact information, and your computer’s IP address will not be recorded.  Only Dr. Jones will have access to your survey responses.  All data will be stored in a manner that cannot be linked to your name or identity.
